I grew up in Reno with my niece and two younger brothers. We were in and out of foster care where I met some truly amazing families that helped guide me in a direction my biological family was unable to. When I was a senior at McQueen I moved from my last foster family into an independent living program called the Nevada Youth Empowerment Project (NYEP), where I lived for 10 months. NYEP gave me the support I needed to overcome the obstacles I have been presented with throughout my life.
I now attend the University of Virginia, where I am double majoring in Psychology and Music in the hopes of becoming a Music Therapist thanks to my volunteering with Note-Ables Music Therapy Services. I always thought I wanted to be away from Reno, however as soon as I left I realized that I hate humidity and missed the support I had in this awesome town. I got out of Reno, but there really is “no place like home.”
